Wildlife Biologist

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
You will work closely with the Lead Wildlife Biologist in the State and District Offices on coordination issues with local interest groups, state wildlife organizations, and other federal agencies on matters pertaining to the impact of the application of biological decisions, habitat conservation, and laws and regulations. The specialist serves as the information liaison between the State Office resource specialists and District/Field office employees on issues pertaining to Special Status Species, Threatened and Endangered Species, and other wildlife matters. You will serve on district level/field level interdisciplinary teams, where you are responsible for writing and reviewing multi-field office required biological input to environmental documents, biological assessments, development of protective stipulations, and resource management plans. You will be responsible for identification of impacts to wildlife habitat and Threatened and Endangered species by other resource activities. You will evaluate inventory and monitoring data to determine population trends and impacts, then formulates strategies designed to recover or mitigate impacts. Work will be primarily performed in an office setting however, in order to gather samples and complete monitoring activities, you may frequently be required to walk or ride in vehicles over rough terrain, and perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Work may also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment and samples. When fieldwork is necessary it will involve outdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure involves some discomfort in extremes of temperature or inclement weather. The incumbent may be subjected to hostile wildlife and physical hazards. This series has a basic qualification requirement and specialized experience that you must have to qualify for this position. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS for the Wildlife Biologist Series GS-0486:
Have successfully completed a degree in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. NOTE:
to be found qualified under this option, you must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to verify your education.OR Have a combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination demonstrates that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position. NOTE:

To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:
GS-07:
Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level of Federal service. This experience includes:
(1) evaluating biological analyses of wildlife ecology and behavior as it relates to land and water resource projects; (2) providing instruction or environmental education to groups and peers; (3) monitoring data to determine population trends and impacts; and (4) reviewing biological input to environmental assessments, biological assessments, protective stipulations, and resource management plans.OR Have one year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement.OR Have a combination of the specialized experience as described in A above and the graduate education as described in B above that when combined equals 100% of the total requirement. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed in A above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed in B above; then add the two percentages together. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. GS-9:
Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level of Federal service. This experience includes:
(1) formulating strategy designs to recover or mitigate impacts; (2) conducting biological analyses of land and water resource projects and permit applications to ensure compliance with federal law; (3) participating in the implementation of new habitat projects for the organization; and (4) providing guidance and quality control to projects and products for other resource specialist.OR Have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.OR Have a combination of the specialized experience as described in A above and the graduate education as described in B above that when combined equals 100% of the total requirement. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed in A above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed in B above; then add the two percentages together. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. GS-11:
Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level of Federal service. This experience includes:
(1) determining habitat capability for a wide variety of animal species and ecological sites; (2) assisting other senior specialist with consulting local Tribal, State, special interest groups and other federal agencies on protection and conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitats; (3) serving on an interdisciplinary team to write and review biological input for environmental assessments, biological assessments, and development of protective stipulations, and resource management plans; and (4) designing habitat improvement and restoration projects for field offices in coordination with other programs.OR Have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D degree or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree.OR Have a combination of the specialized experience as described in A above and the graduate education as described in B above that when combined equals 100% of the total requirement. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed in A above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed in B above; then add the two percentages together. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate education in excess two full years (36 hours) may be used to qualify. NOTE:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
