Park Ranger

Park Rangers support the BLM resource and recreation programs. As non-commissioned (non law enforcement) staff, park rangers provide information to public about natural and cultural resources as well as recreation opportunities. Park rangers perform activities to enhance environmental conservation and restoration programs to help meet management objectives. Duties may include but are not limited to; operating off-highway vehicles, installing signs and markers, participating in evaluating visitor use patterns, preparing and maintaining recreation areas and sites, and monitoring conditions of natural resources. Park rangers also will develop and conduct interpretive presentations to a variety of age groups. They conduct patrols, safety inspections, and may respond to assist other staff with emergency situations. The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain and austere conditions. This includes very steep, rough, uneven and shifting terrain. Work takes place in all weather conditions including hot temperatures, high winds, blowing sand, sometimes heavy rain in both day and night settings. The work is arduous and applicants should possess a high degree of physical fitness. Your resume must contain enough information to show that you meet the specialized experience as defined below. GS-05 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.GS-06 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; developing and conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; monitoring special recreation permits; conducting potable water tests in compliance with appropriate state laws; or assisting with supervision of seasonal recreation technicians. -OR- Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work). -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. Related Course Work -natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science related to the protection of public lands, social sciences, museum sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly relates to the duties performed by a Park Ranger.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
